For those of you who follow the fortunes of the small breweries working at the upper echelons of UK creativity, you'll be well familiar with Northern Monk's incremental improvements over the past 6-9 months. A solid core range has been brought to life of late, with New World IPA and World Beer Cup bronze medalist, External, suddenly shining their hop light over the North of England.
It's the specials though, where the real magic has been happening. The Mango Lassi Heathen IPA did everything you want from an IPA, and several other things you didn't know you wanted until you had them. The Patrons Project has thrown up collaborations with Against the Grain and Siren Craft Brew. They've made a beer for/with Swedish metal giants Opeth and their latest odyssey, Trilogy 2016, is a celebration of the main constituent ingredients of beer.
Trilogy comprises of;
Hops. A DIPA, made with New Zealand hop masters, Epic.
Malt. An Imperial Porter, made with renowned dark beer merchants, De Molen.
Yeast. A/An (I've no idea, it's being canned on Thursday), is made with one the USA's most revered breweries, Cigar City.
Owner Russell, and head brewer Brian will be here the day after their total tap takeover at The Hanging Bat (you should probably check that out) from 6pm to do their first Horizontal Tasting of Trilogy 2016. They will also be bringing along some bottles of a never-to-be-released beer, called The Forgotten Sin. They'll explain the story on the night.
Tickets are £12 and as usual you'll be treated to some food, a can of each of the beers (yes, you read that correctly) and good chat (if you're into that kind of thing).
